Founded in 2019, Chuva Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a locally owned academy serving students ages 6 and up throughout the Triangle area. Chuva is led by Soul Fighters Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt Mark Christian, who has more than 23 years of martial arts experience. Professor Christian trained from white to brown belt under Pedro Sauer Black Belts Richard Bueno, Brian Ogule, and Dusty Alexander before continuing his journey under Sal Flores and Augusto “Tanquinho” Mendes at Pallaton BJJ. After earning his black belt in 2017, he moved to New York to teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, where he further expanded his knowledge by learning from John Danaher and other members of the Bronx Martial Arts team. Today, Chuva Brazilian Jiu Jitsu brings that unique combination of experience and instruction to students seeking high-level training in a welcoming environment.

The goal of Chuva Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is to help every student believe they can accomplish difficult things, overcome challenging circumstances, and find a supportive community. Through group and private instruction in Gi, No-Gi, and Self-Defense, we use an ecological dynamics approach that emphasizes learning by doing and building confidence through experience. This is an environment of challenge, growth, and accountability where students are held to a high standard. We care deeply about the quality of people and the quality of grappling that leave our facility, and we look forward to helping you test your potential while developing skills that extend far beyond the mats.
